Full description
On arrival, visit the stable courtyard and garden centre to enjoy relaxed shopping and eating in beautiful surroundings. The farm shop features a delicatessen and butcher's counter, as well as a range of home baking products, groceries, wine and beer.

Stroll along grass terraces and lakeside paths, discover seasonal colour in the woodland garden, and marvel at stunning displays including daffodils, rhododendrons and roses. Explore the 18th-century walled garden before entering the house for a free-flowing tour which allows visitors to admire its awe-inspiring architecture and interiors at leisure.

There are guides located throughout the house who are happy to answer any questions. Whatever your interest there is something for everyone, from the collection of Meissen, Sevre and Chelsea China, to the famed marble collection on display in the Antique Passage. The art collection at Castle Howard is stunning, with paintings on display from the Italian old masters Marco Ricci, Canalettto, Pannini and Zuccarelli alongside works by English artists including Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough.

The Duty Calls exhibition explores the stories of Castle Howard, the family and tenants in time of war from Waterloo through to World War Two, and the Brideshead Restored exhibition shows how the High South, destroyed by fire in 1940, was transformed from derelict rooms to film set. Look behind the scenes of the television and film adaptations of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.

Why not finish your visit in one of the many cafes or restaurants. Savor a traditional cream tea, sample the great collection of homemade cakes, or enjoy a 2 or 3-course menu. Upgrade your tour to include a self-service cream tea to your booking. Redeem your voucher in the Fitzroy Restaurant at any point during your visit for a scone with cream and jam with tea or filter coffee.
