Reykjavik: Midnight Sun Whale Watching Tour

Reykjavik: Midnight Sun Whale Watching Tour

Whales are the most mysterious of creatures, and some of the best whale watching in the world is just off the coast of Iceland’s capital, where the ocean currents create excellent viewing conditions. Climb aboard a whale watching boat operated by the only environmentally certified whale watching company in Iceland, and explore the southern part of Faxafloi Bay in the Midnight sun of the summer months. On the 3.5-hour tour you will get up-close to whales such as playful minke, as well as see abundant sea birds, dolphin and harbor porpoise. Whales are seen on more than 95% of summer tours, often surfacing within a few meters from the boats. To ensure that the animals are not disturbed, boats sail at a constant speed towards the whales' habitat. This is part of a sustainability policy, trying to minimize oil use and pollution. Guides have all gone through an extensive training program, based on exclusively developed guiding principles. They will provide valuable information about the wildlife and scenery in an entertaining way. And as a successful whale watching tour is a team effort, the crew work closely with passengers to spot the whales, helping you feel an important part of the experience.

Your dedicated tour guides will provide you with the best whale watching experience possible. The summer is the peak season for spotting all sorts of wildlife.  Visit the Whales of Iceland exhibition, the largest of its kind in Europe. Nowhere else can you stand face-to-face with so many whale species, all of which have been found in Icelandic waters through the ages. Marvel at the 25-meter-long blue whale, the full-size sperm whale (like the one in Moby Dick), the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, and many others.  At the exhibition you can learn about the life and behavior of these giants of the sea as well as listen to their singing and look into their eyes. The experience, being surrounded by these giants of the sea, is a unique one that’s appealing to both adults and children.  The interactive stations are based on the latest scientific data. You can, for example, learn about the biology of the Minke whale and follow the migration routes of whales that have been tagged and monitored by satellite.  Whale watching is a natural activity that is subject to the weather. If the trip is canceled due to bad weather, the whale watching part of the ticket will be refunded. If there are no sightings during the trip, then you have the option to go again. Please note that in case of cancellation of the whale watching tour, the price of the entire ticket will not be refunded, only the whale watching part. The ticket to the museum is open, meaning you can freely choose when you want to go. This does not have to happen on the same day that your whale watching tour is scheduled.

Paul was the best! My 81yo mother and I were just starting to catch the bus today from Perlan. I saw the bus almost too late, but Paul stopped for us. We sat up front with him and he kept us entertained for a whole loop and a half. He also drove so well in the high winds we had today. He was a very friendly gentleman. I really enjoyed the conversation.

The bus driver was very good. The deal was well worth the money. We had the freedom to see the things we wanted. The Perlan Museum was great and the pick up was on time at each stop. I highly recommend the bus and museum combo ticket.

Great day spent on and off the bus. Using the interactive map was great, as could time when we would leave an attraction/venue to jump back on the next bus.

The bus drivers were very helpful and totally flexible. Requests for unscheduled stops were met without hesitation!

Seeing the auroras and fireworks is magic come true to start 2025. It's very cold but they give you blankets!
