We'll discover the great University of Virginia - considered to be one of Jefferson's architectural masterpieces, as well as his house and estate at Monticello. This day-long trip is a fantastic opportunity to get a closer look at Jefferson's personal and political legacy.
Monticello is an estate that rivals the greatest palaces of Europe and is a national historic site. Here, you can walk the grounds and experience Monticello as Jefferson himself might have done. During your tour we'll visit the final resting place of Jefferson as well as several of the small outlying pavilions and industrial buildings that make up the grounds. We'll see several slaves' dwellings, including the stone weaver's cottage, where it is believed that Jefferson engaged in a 38-year relationship with one of his enslaved women. Your expert guide will help you understand the context and history in which this fascinating man lived.
After visiting the grounds we'll head to the Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center, where you will have the chance to deepen you understanding of this great thinker.
