What to Expect
If you only have one day or a few hours on dry land and you want to see Berlin before getting back on your cruise ship, why not opt to take a full-day excursion there, one that will have you back at your cruise ship in time?
A day trip from the port of Warnemunde to the German capital city of Berlin takes about 3 hours each way in comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles, with a driver who will pick you up at your cruise ship at a time chosen by you and bring you to Berlin.
Here the tour starts at the Charlottenburg Palace located in the western district of Charlottenburg. After meeting the city guide, continue through the western half of the city, driving down the beautiful Kurfurstendam and stopping for a photo opportunity at the bombed-out Kaiser William Memorial Church. The tour then continues through the Tiergarten, which is much like the Central Park of Berlin. Pass the towering Victory Column and jump out of the bus again at the German Parliament, the Reichstag. From here you will get a chance to stretch your legs as you walk the few hundred meters through the Brandenburg Gate into Paris Square. Nearby you can see the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the site of Hitler's Bunker, before getting back on the bus.
The next stop is the architecturally amazing Potsdamer Platz, once considered a no-man's land. Head on to the nearby former site of the SS and Gestapo Headquarters, which is now a museum called the Topography of Terror. This is coincidentally also the first time you will see a stretch of the Berlin Wall in its original position, so you will once again get a chance to get off the bus and take some photos. The infamous Checkpoint Charlie is the next stop on the tour.
Stop for a lunch before continuing on to the historic heart of Berlin. passing the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt Square and the Book Burning Square before landing on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Museum Island, home to Berlin's 5 most-famous museums. Depending on how much time is left, the tour can continue on to the East Side Gallery and/or the former Jewish Quarter of town, which has now become the art district of Berlin.
There will also be some free time for the group at the biggest department store in Europe - KaDeWe. Please note that your guide will be entirely flexible and can custom tailor the itinerary however the majority likes.
