We were a bit apprehensive about booking an off-ship excursion on our own, but we're very happy we did with GetYourGuide. We booked the 5+ hour excursion which gave us a comprehensive tour of Watangi, Kerikeri, Haruru Falls, Mankana Chocolates, and the Kawiti Glowworm Caves. It was the best tour we've taken in our 15 years of continual traveling. The highlight was the Caves: the glowworms shine far above like the milky way. Unique, in our experience. What took it over the top for us was our guide Nick, who was excited about showing us his magnificent country. An excellent conversationalist, Nick engaged us in topics of our interest. All in all, the tour could not have been better.
We really enjoyed our visit to the treaty grounds. We learned so much about the Maori culture and history and developed quite an appreciation for the struggles they faced. The museums were excellent and the grounds were really beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the singing/dancing cultural performance and hangi.
This is a wonderful place. The museums, Treaty House and top Marae are great. We did a tour and the tour guide was well informed and was able to answer any questions. If you are a kiwi you should only pay $25 each not the $50 charged by this site.
We had an excellent guide who taught us so much about New Zealand's history. He was so knowledgable and very entertaining. We really enjoyed the cultural show as well.
Arriving from a cruise ship it is just a 10 minute walk to the treaty grounds. A guided tour was well worth the time & is included in the modest admission price.
