Explore the labyrinth of the Cu Chi Tunnels on an 8-hour shore excursion from Phu My Port and learn about the network of underground rooms, hospitals and schools that stretched as far as Cambodia and were vital to the guerillas of the Vietnam War.
What to Expect
Explore the vast network of subterranean rooms on an 8-hour shore excursion to the Cu Chi Tunnels, with round-trip transportation from Phu My Port.
A symbol of Vietnam's continual fight against foreign incursions, the tunnel system extended for close to 120 miles (200 kilometers) as far as the Cambodian border, and even under what was once a US Air Base.
Relax on the 2.5-hour transfer from Vung Tau. Upon arrival, your guide will explain how the tunnels were dug by hand and provided vital shelter to the Vietnamese guerillas during the war. The section you will visit lay at the end of the famous Ho Chi Minh Trail and was the base from where guerillas planned their attacks on military sites in Saigon. As a result, the area became a "Free Fire Zone" and was carpet-bombed by the Americans during the war.
During the tour, you will visit the museum to see photos and artifacts from the struggle. But you will also go underground to experience the tunnels for yourself. Try to squeeze through the tiny, hidden entrances to reach the largest part of the tunnel. Look for a secret hole in the garden, and get a sense of the hardship of the conflict.
