It happened to be a cloudy and somewhat rainy day, but this trip was still worth it. The car ride to Vik was pretty long, and from there you are picked up by a van that can drive through the fields toward Katla. It’s another long ride, probably about 40 minutes but it is still an experience. Once we got to Katla, you walk about less than 10 minutes in to get a closer look. *NOTE* You do not actually go IN the cave for a walking tour. You do step inside briefly (about 20 feet distance maybe even less) to take a photo but by groups. This is at an opening to the cave but again, you do not go all the way inside (not like the pictures in the advertisement show). Either way, you continue your journey along the field and the scenery is beautiful. It is still breathtaking!!!! One of my favorite parts of my trip to Iceland so far! The waterfall stops are also beautiful.
Came on-time and the guide for the day (Vjeran) was extremely helpful. He answered a lot of questions and really good-natured. For one of the waterfalls - he laid on the ground to get the best picture of my husband and I..this one was our favorite from the trip. In difficult areas to walk up to - he lent a hand and to make sure people were ok and safe. Would highly recommend. Thank you, Vjeran! :)
FABULOUS DAY IT WAS A VERY LONG DAY 12-13 HOURS LIMIT YOUR DRINKING BEFORE YOU GO AS NO TOILETS WEAR SENSIBLE SHOES AND WRAPP UP WARM / WATER PROOFS THEY DO MAKE A STOP AT A SERVICE STATION FOR FOOD AND DRINK AND LOOS CAVE GUIDE WAS LOVELY
Its a long drive when you do it from Reykjavik, but when you get there, it's so beautiful! The glacier is amazing, and the guide took us to different ice caves
