Special exhibitions

Peter Dressler: Vienna Gold 16 November 2016 - 5 March 2017

Peter Dressler (1942-2013) shaped early history of Austrian photography. Now, the Kunsthaus Wien has honored him with a comprehensive retrospective. His name is among Inge Morath, Erich Lessing, Franz Hubmann and Friedl Kubelka on the list of Austrians awarded the state prize for photography. Peter Dressler was a photrgrapher, filmmaker, lecturer, collector and critical protagonist of the art scene of the 70's. His work casts the city of Vienna in a central role, showing the tragicomic side of the city without reference to the city's cliches.

24.3.2017 – 27.8.2017

Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky (*1955) became world-famous with his breathtaking large-format photographs of landscapes shaped by human hand, industrial premises and major conurbations. The Kunsthaus Wien is dedicating Austria’s first comprehensive solo exhibition to this artist who, for more than thirty years now, has put his talents at the ‘service of a culture of sustainability’. The exhibition showcases Burtynsky’s current work cycle on a topic of global relevance: water as a precious resource, as an element of our everyday lives vital to our bodies and our planet and as the wellspring of life itself.

Visions of Nature
13.09.2017 – 18.02.2018

The big autumn exhibition "Visions of Nature“ shows works from photography and video, which deal with the depiction and representation of nature, their pictorial deconstruction and construction and with scenarios of convergence and demarcation from the environment in a so-called anthropocentric age.
