The Dark Side of Glasgow

1. The Dark Side of Glasgow

Let's share a dram and explore famous landmarks and gritty street art, while I tell you tales of Glasgow’s crime and macabre past. Hear about its ties to the slave trade, its gangs, its godfathers, its ghosts, and its twisted serial killers. Let's toast with single malt Scottish Whisky and have some traditional snacks whilst learning about the 'real' Glasgow, from a real Glaswegian. Bursting with trademark dry Glaswegian humour and feisty, entertaining tales, this is a unique tour experience not to be missed. 'People Make Glasgow' and this is a tour dedicated to the people and their thrilling, hilarious, and sometimes terrifying adventures. Want to know about Bible John? The Human Crocodile? The Gorbals Vampire? Arthur Thompson and his kin? Then look no further! These are not the stories you will find in museums, they cannot be summed up in a book. Glaswegians are known to spin a yarn and are the world’s greatest storytellers ─ your guide will add their own anecdotes passed down from family, including both the historical facts and the mythical imaginings clearly defined. Walk the affluent streets of the Merchant city, be faced with Glasgow's famous High Court of Justiciary, saunter through the cultural Glasgow Green Park, and head out to the Barras Market and Barrowland Ballroom before ending in the central historic heart of our city.

What people are saying about Van Winkle Barrowlands, Glasgow

My best mate and I booked the Dark Side of Glasgow tour as part of our 40th birthday celebrations in Scotland. The tour was well organised and Rhona our tour guide was brilliant, very informative and has a fantastic way of telling her wonderfully entertaining stories. Rhona moves the group along at a pace to suit the slowest members of the group and even provided snacks and whisky en route! I’d recommend the tour to any fan of stories that err on the darker side of things but be warned; the tour is definitely value for money as it lasts 3hrs! I would definitely recommend the tour and Rhona, who was simply amazing.

Rhona was so amazing. She's a fantastic tour guide. I learned so much more about the city than I thought I would. She kept the mood up, even when talking about some really dark stuff, speaking of which, I really appreciate how she doesn't shy away from the dark parts of a city that she clearly loves so much. She even shared some whiskey and snacks with us. If you really want to get to know Glasgow, warts and all, told by a true Glaswegian, book this tour.

My guide was Rhona and she presented the dark side of Glasgow with great passion and fun. Besides the personal touch and the picnic 😉 she told a lot about the many stories that are not known to people outside Glasgow. Highly recommended! 😀

We had a great time. Our guide, Rhona, was lovely. Very theatrical and knowledgeable. They was also very welcoming and friendly. It was a great way to see the city and learn about its history

Our guide was very knowledgeable and well spoken. Local history and information. Highly recommend!
