Discover an eclectic mix of architecture and local sights on a 3-hour private walking tour of Valencia’s historic city center. Taste regional and local produce at the Central Market, and marvel at the Moorish and Modern design of the Torres de Serrano.
What to Expect
See the best of Valencia’s old town on a 3-hour walking tour with a local guide, and discover its mix of the past and the present in a city re-born.
Start at the old "Torres de Serrano," one of the 12 gates that formed part of the old city walls. Pass buildings of elaborate Modernist and Moorish design, before arriving at the 15th-century Silk Exchange (Llotja de la Seda). Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, it was one of the main buildings of Valencia during Spain’s “Golden Age.”
Continue to the Mercado Central to see a masterpiece of Modernist architecture. Experience the city in full swing as the locals stock-up on fresh fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, and more. Sample some sweet wine and cheese. Next, see the circular “square” of the Plaza Redonda, and look down the narrow streets that lead off it. This is a great place to find ceramic crafts and souvenirs.
Try an authentic horchata (a refreshing soft drink made from tiger nuts) at one of the oldest horchateria in town. End with a panoramic view of the Cathedral, commonly known as the “Seu.” Admire its mix of Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, and Neo-classical elements, before walking to Plaza de la Virgen to go inside the Basilica of Our Holy Lady of the Forsaken.
