What to see in and around Tower Bridge

London's iconic Tower Bridge is as extravagantly British as is possible for a bridge to be! It's undoubtedly a must-see. So how do you make the most of your visit to this unique triumph of engineering?

Glass Walkway

42 meters above the river, Tower Bridge's new glass walkway provides a knee-knocking view of the boats and pedestrians passing beneath your feet. Don't worry, it's quite safe!

East Walkway

The East Walkway not only offers great views across London's historic trading ports and buildings, but is also used as one of the city's most unique exhibition spaces.

Victorian Engine Rooms

Today the bridge is held up by Wi-Fi and selfies (probably), but the old engine rooms demonstrate the former logistic miracle that powered it, complete with authentic sounds and smells!

North Bank

The short westward stroll leaving Tower Bridge offers a view spanning City Hall, HMS Belfast, and the Shard!

Tower of London

While at Tower Bridge, there are few excuses not to visit its historic namesake, the Tower of London. If you're short on time, the nearby gardens of St. Dunstan-in-the-East are a worthy substitute.

Tower Bridge: Our Tips

How to get there?

The closest Tube station to Tower Bridge is Tower Hill on the District and Circle lines. The Tower Gateway DLR station is just as close.

How often does the bridge open?

Bridge lifts are booked in advance for passing ships. There is no set schedule, but if you want to be sure to see the event, times can be easily found on Tower Bridge's official website. Failing that, you can book a bridge lift yourself for free. All you need is a very tall boat!

Good to Know

  • Additional tips
*It can get cold and windy by the river, so wrap up. *Tower Bridge and the Tower of London itself make a great day out - it could be a good idea to get a ticket that covers both.

What People Are Saying About Tower Bridge

Cockney commentary made for a hilarious trip.

Lovely to meander down the river to take in the sights & avoid traffic

The only thing was that I purchased my tickets on line and down loaded the app only to have to queue at the book office. I would have though you would have a scanner to just be able to scan and avoid all of that to make purchasing the tickets on line a worthwhile option.

Get rid of the silver tins lads, its expensive enough

Great Thames trips love it, the narration from the crew was funny, though obviously very well rehearsed, only real gripe is the silver buckets being pushed forward on exiting the boats, the trips are priced high enough, if you use the boat all day, its really good exiting value, but the silver bucket could add £10 to £20 to your day, as a Cornish pensioner I can tell you that this a lot to give away.

really enjoyed, a great relaxed atmosphere.....

My partner and I were one of the first on but got served our food last, the boat was full up which was great to see, we waited along time, would have been nice to have at least been served with a cup of tea while we had to wait last for our sandwiches/scones, mind you when it finally arrived it was lovely, a few more staff would have been better. Have to say though the girls who served us were smashing, smiley and very friendly. We enjoyed the commentry from the captain, he said he had only talked on 2 trips before but did a great job, we could hear better on the way back after most people decided to go up on deck as before it was hard to hear with everyone chatting. Yes we would recommend to our friends, we picked a fab day with the weather.Thank you
