Be taken by an English speaking guide & sake connoisseur to one of top-ranked Japanese sake breweries which would not usually accept individual tourists. These best breweries are hand-picked by your guide from more than 1,500 breweries.
What to Expect
Meet your guide at the closest station to the brewery (varies depending on the day). From there, the guide will escort you to a local Japanese restaurant in the vicinity on foot so you can first relax and be ready to embark on a tour to the sake brewery (lunch fee will not be included in the tour). The brewery will be in walking distance (approx. 10-15 minutes) from the lunch location. This tour can be a small group tour or a private tour (with additional fee) depending on your preference.
Once you arrive, the expert guide will explain to you about the history of the brewery, procedure of sake making, and all the story regarding sake including how important sake is to Japanese people. As soon as you learn about these information, you will have a chance to see and touch the actual tools used for sake production such as the wooden paddles to stir the unrefined sake, tanks to keep sake, the presser to refine sake and more. Additionally, you can drink water and eat the rice malt used for sake brewing.
Then, it will be time for sake tasting! You will be offered numerous types of sake which varies in alcohol content, aroma, and flavor ranging from sweet to dry. As you try all the different sake, the guide will teach you how to read the labels and what makes all the difference. There will be ample time for this sake tasting (approx. 1 hours) so you can actually have a deep, genuine experience and understanding of what you learned throughout the tour. Finally, check the retail store and you will have the opportunity to purchase your favorite sake which you found during the sake tasting. The tour finishes as you get escorted back to the same station and your guide can provide you direction back to the hotel or to your next destination.
