What to Expect
Kamakura (鎌倉) is a very popular day trip from Tokyo, and is a coastal town 50 km south-west of the capital in Kanagawa Prefecture. With 65 Buddhist temples and 19 Shinto shrines, surrounded by mountains and sea, retaining spirits of Zen culture.
Kamakura offers a wide range of world Heritage sights, including;
Hase-dera temple / Kōtoku-in and its Great Buddha / The Great Buddha hiking trail (about 2 km) / Zeniarai Benzaiten shrine / Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū shrine.
There is also the option to stroll around Komachi-dori shopping street.
