Pet and interact with gray whales in Baja California on a 2-day whale watching adventure of Magdalena Bay. Sail aboard typical small panga boats to get closer to the mighty marine mammals. Launch directly from the surf for an intimate encounter.
What to Expect
Experience the thrill of getting up-close-and-personal with gray whale mothers and babies in the Pacific waters of Baja California. This 2-day overnight trip visits 2 different lagoons, where you can observe - and often pet - the friendly whales up-close.
The largest wetland ecosystem on the west coast of Baja, Magdalena Bay is one of the most important in North America, with the World Wildlife Fund ranking it as one of the most important coastal habitats in Mexico.
Transfer to Magdalena Bay to experience its mangrove forests, barrier beaches and sand dune islands. Marvel at the scenery and biological diversity before a 3-hour whale watching trip on board a small panga boat.
With room for only 4 passengers, in addition to the captain and crew, the boats are launched directly in the surf, which dictates limitations on the amount of weight they can carry, and has the added safety benefit of resulting in a tight crew to passenger ratio. Magdalena Bay is also a breeding ground for bald eagles, brown pelicans and frigate birds. Home to one of the largest Pacific coast colonies of California sea lions, these and more are some of the natural splendors waiting to meet you.
Check into your hotel in San Carlos, and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
This morning, you will enjoy another exciting 3 hours of whale watching in a different part of Magdalena Bay.Observe whale behavior up-close, such as breaching and hopping. Prime calving ground for gray whales, from late January through mid-March it is possible to see - and sometimes touch - a large number of whales, including mothers and calves.
