The Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve interpretive day hike is in one of Baja California Sur´s most beautiful but least explored areas. Recommended for experienced walkers only.
What to Expect
Depart Todos Santos at 9:00am and drive an hour from the ocean, through the desert, to the mountain trail head where the hike starts. The walk begins in the selva Baja caducifolia – desert scrub - then winds up through lush reserves of oak forest and pine. The guides are all great naturalists and gifted story tellers - as well as certified Wilderness First Responders - so there is a lot of great information about local flora, fauna and history. The Biosphere Reserve was part an island off the coast of Baja some 10 million years ago, and the incredible diversity of plant and animal life of the Reserve still reflects the island isolation the area once enjoyed – over 23% of plants and 10% of animals found in the Reserve are endemic to the area. Picnic lunches consist of delicious sandwiches and fruit, and all dietary restrictions are easily and happily accommodated. Return to Todos Santo by 5:00pm.
