  • Camargue: Safari from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

    1. Camargue: Safari from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

Depart from the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and head out on a 2-hour safari around the scenic Camargue, southern France. Headed by a designated driver and guide, your group will discover the blossoming flora and fauna unique to this bucolic region.  See the famous white Camargue horses roaming freely in the fields from the heights of the convertible 4x4 motor. Snap shots of flamingos and different bird species flying around the edge of the ponds and bodies of water found in this serene area while listening to the story of the Camargue.  Travel to a bull farm where you will encounter black bulls and learn about the bull farming life from your informative guide.

Our trip by safari was incredibly informative, though it was hard to see the flamingos specifically. The only issue with riding in the back of the 4 x 4 was that it was difficult to hear what the driver was saying in regard to the area due to the wind.

  • From Arles: Half-Day 4x4 Camargue Safari

    2. From Arles: Half-Day 4x4 Camargue Safari

Meet your guide and embark on this incredible half-day 4 x 4 tour. Located between the arms of the Rhône River, the Camargue is a wind-swept land made of salt and water. Birds have made it their safe haven and people have managed to intermingle with biodiversity in this unique place, breeding bulls and horses, as well as developing the rice culture.   Camargue manages to seduce with its breathtaking landscapes and doesn't fail to impress. This territory, where water and alluvium, ponds, marshes and land all mix, has been the base of exceptionally rich human history. Discover the ponds and marshes, home to pink flamingos and many other birds. You will be welcomed on  private land to admire the famous Camargue bulls and horses. Discover the heart of the Camargue Natural Regional Park and learn  about its nature and history from your guide.

This is the second time we have taken guests on this tour and each time we learn something new about the Camargue. The trip is the best way to learn about the area from local, well informed guides. I would recommend this experience to anyone visiting the region.

  • From Avignon: Half-Day Van Gogh & Carrières de Lumières Tour

    5. From Avignon: Half-Day Van Gogh & Carrières de Lumières Tour

Follow in the tracks of Vincent van Gogh in Provence on this 5-hour tour. Begin in Arles, a city that fascinated the artist. Then, set off to discover the city through the history of the artist during this fascinating city tour. First, visit the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” which hosts extraordinary multimedia shows, unique in the world with Dali and Gaudi. Finish with St Paul de Mausole, the famous psychiatric hospital, where Van Gogh spent 1 very creative year.

Whilst I enjoyed the overall tour, there was too much packed into 5 hours with no time for a lunch stop and barely time to go to the toilet. I was disappointed we only had 1 hour at carrieres des lumieres, as this only just covered the time to get in there and watch the films; no time for lunch, no time to look around, and no time to view the film about Vincent’s life. And then when we visited the hospital, the little shop was closed for the duration of our 40 min visit.

Very enriching walk on Camargue culture and full of surprises ... Small gourmet break also very popular. I recommend the Martial guide who is unbeatable and full of humor and he shares his local culture with you with passion and sympathy. If he comes to Brittany we will pay him a visit in our turn unless we decide to stay in the area we will meet him with pleasure on his secret beach!
