  • Cape Town: India Venster Half-Day Hike

    6. Cape Town: India Venster Half-Day Hike

Starting near to the lower cable car station, this hike will take 3-4 hours to the top. Look out for indigenous flora, like the King Protea, wander at the spectacular rock formations, like the India Venster (“Window” in Afrikaans) and witness views as far as the eye can see, taking in Robben Island and the whole of Table Bay. False Bay and surrounding mountains are also visible from the top. If this is all the hike you need then a cable car ride down to the bottom can be done at this point.

I had a wonderful time doing the hike. Cliff from OTC is an accomplished, fantastic guide with a main concern about safety of the hikers. He took good care of me, showed the tricky areas of the trail, and the day was a perfect hiking activity full of beautiful, wonderful views from the marvellous city of Cape Town. I plan to return to South Africa, and definitely I plan to do the hiking again along with some friends; but definitely I would book the hiking tour with GET YOUR GUIDE but I would request Cliff as our guide. He is synonym of safety and enjoyment during the activity. Thank you Get Your Guide and Cliff from OTC for such delightful day of hiking.

Hike through Platteklip Gorge on the shortest route to the top of Table Mountain. Take in the sweeping views of the Cape Town area from the top. It should take around 2 hours to hike up. The trail begins just past the lower cableway station on Tafelberg Road. This was the first route that explorers used to summit the mountain, way before the cableway was built. Iynette was a great guide who brought our group up the mountains with great vigor. See us on the IINDIAN VENSTER route (highly recommended because it is varied, interesting and a bit sporty) with information about the country, flora + fauna and the history of the country. We even did the way back with her on foot because we were then overrun in the cable cabin. Gladly with her again at any time.

Loved it. Started early which was needed as the sun was hot. Lynette was a great leader and really enjoyed walking with her up the mountain. She was extremely knowledgeable of the fauna and animals on the mountain and made the tough walk enjoyable.
