Full description
Enjoy an evening of gastronomic and cultural discoveries with a passionate local guide. Your guide will share the secrets of ancient Syracuse with you and invite you to dine in the authentic family Tavernas hidden among the small streets of Ortigia. These tavernas are always known for their charm, hospitality and, of course, delicious traditional cooking. The tour perfectly combines wine and food with a walking tour of the most important monuments in the old city: Piazza San Rocco; Piazza Duomo; Santa Lucia church; Piazza San Giuseppe; the Jewish district; Piazza Archimede; and many other treasures. First Stop: Seafood with white wine and Prosecco; fresh breaded fish of the day; mussels soup in a Sicilian style; tuna in sweet-sour onion sauce; little fresh fish fried in olive oil; Sicilian white wine and Grillo IGP Sicilia tasting. Second Stop: Land-based food and red wine with Bruschetta (hot crunchy Sicilian bread) and Sicilian Caponata; classic bruschetta with dried tomatoes and basil; Sicilian Arancino (rice balls filled with Sicilian sauce); typical Syracuse focaccia filled in with broccoli; cheeses and salami; homemade Cannolo with Ricotta cheese; two typical Sicilian red wines (Nero D’avola & Syrah) Third Stop: Sweets and liquors with Saint Lucy pastry; almond pastry; pistachio pastry; Limoncello, Sicilian sweet Passito wine and almond wine.

Informative and fun evening

We had a great time on this tour and would recommend it as a great way to learn about Ortigia’s history and about the food and wine of the vicinity. Everyone we were introduced to by Valeria ( our charming guide) was warm , friendly and gave us explanations about the delicious food we were sampling. We also tasted and learnt about the wine produced in Sicily. Thanks also to Alex for keeping us informed/ giving directions etc. Great!

Very good Tour with Siracusa's history shining through

We had a really good tour! The guide was very sweet and extremely knowledgeable of Siracusa and the history of the city and Sicily in general. It was only us and one other couple and the guide spoke both Spanish and English perfectly. The reason for 4 rather than 5 starts is that the focus on the tour was a bit more on Siracusa and history than on the food and wine. It also complemented each other and the food and wine was still very tasty and interesting, but if one was expecting a "pure" wine/food tour, it might not have met expectations. Anyway, can be recommended!

Delicious and v interesting

Our guide seemed to know many people in Ortygia and be v aware of what was happening. She graciously talked extensively about life in Siracusa as we made our way around each venue. Not only was the food and wine delicious but we were able to discuss daily life as we went. A great opportunity to have a personalised view.
