The guided tour gave us the history of the design and time involved in completion of the Opera House. Also the story of Jorn Utzen and the tragic way he left Australia to never return and see his iconic building. It was great to sit inside each theatre and find out the type of performances in each one and the technical details of how stage and lighting function. Our Spanish guide was very enthusiastic and she welcomed questions from the group. She made us aware of the beauty of the building and the daily functioning with a performance taking place and some rehearsals also. We enjoyed some lovely food as part of the tour overlooking the Bridge and the harbour.

This tour leaves early, so that the group, limited to 12 each day, can access backstage and working areas of nearly all the performance spaces within the complex. Our tour guide Alan was truly excellent. His love for the space and knowledge about its inner workings really showed. Worth every penny!
