5. Stockholm Archipelago: 1-Day Kayak Tour
Discover the Stockholm archipelago, just 45 minutes outside of Stockholm. The archipelago is formed of about 30,000 islands located in the calmness of the Baltic Sea. In the past, it was home to numerous farming and fishing shelters and was a Viking trading outpost. The surface of the water is overhung by domes made of rocks and trees creating a unique natural maze which is perfect to explore on a kayak.
Begin the tour, by meeting your guide at 9 AM in the South of Stockholm. Drive together to Dalarö, a charming little village, from where you'll embark on your kayak adventure. On the way, admire the magnificent little wooden red houses which have been discreetly built among the pines. Spend the entire day exploring different islands from the water. Stop on one of the deserted islands for a filling lunch cooked on an open fire. Take time here to rest, accompanied by the swell of the Baltic and the singing birds.
At the end of the afternoon, paddle back towards Dalarö where you started from. Go around the other islands and get the opportunity to see other fantastic things on the more wild part of the archipelago. Keep your eyes peeled for circling sea eagles searching for prey. Try to spot numerous species of migratory birds including different types of goose or the famous great cormorant flying over the horizon heading north. At the end of the tour, return to Stockholm filled with memories and replenished by the fresh air.
