  • From St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk Palace and Gardens Tour

    2. From St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk Palace and Gardens Tour

The summer palace of Russian Emperor Paul 1, located 20 kilometers south of St. Petersburg, is known worldwide for its exquisite beauty. Explore this architectural wonder with a guide on this 4-hour midday outing. After pickup at your hotel at 10:00 AM, you’ll head to the Palace for a 10:45 AM arrival. Start your excursion with a tour of the palace. At first glance, it looks less pompous than other royal palaces near St. Petersburg; however, it’s beauty truly lies in its architectural conciseness, straight lines, and classical style. Many nobles and grandees across Russia sought to recreate elements of this palace in a more modest form. The Emperor Paul I and his wife Maria Fedorovna, were keen on ancient mythology and sculpture, which they made every effort to incorporate into their residence.   Continue your outing with a tour of Pavlovsk Park, the gardens that surround the palace. Hi in Moscow I got a card to go around in saint Petersburg apart from the blunder on the part of Getyourguide cancellation of my pass the pass was ok. Unfortunately the new one I had to paid was in a form of a booklet in which you had to tear sections in order to use. That was very inconvenient. Also instead of looking for the place of collection you should have an office in the airport. The time for collection was also bad, 11 am is very late.

We booked this tour with an english speaking guide to make sure we understood what we were seeing. Well worth it. You could try doing it independently but you would miss so much information. Our guide Olga arrived and was excellent from the very outset. Her knowledge and passion for the tour was exceptional. Peter and Paul fortress excellent, followed by church of the spilled blood and onto St Isaac cathedral. Although we were the only two on the tour we found Olga made us feel like a member of her own family when it came to stop for a traditional russian lunch. When it came to the highlight of the tour which was the Hermitage museum this is where the expert guide Olga made the tour worth every penny. Her knowledge as we said earlier was brilliant. Booking through Get your guide was the first time we have booked experiences online but will definitely be using this website in the future. Rob and Vanessa Newell

This was a private family tour of Catherine the Great's Summer Palace, the Hermitage and the Winter palace with hotel pickup and drop off in a clean late model minivan The tour was efficiently run with punctual pickup and drop off at the various locations. There was a seperate driver and tour guide. The guide gave an oustanding background to the Romanov family which resembled the detail of a Russian novel. This was my birthday treat! Our tour guide, Helena (I think) chatted with us before we set off and worked out a route to fill in the bits we'd not seen, as we'd spent 3 days sightseeing already. She was very knowledgeable and we still managed to learn new things about St. Petersburg. We were very lucky in that it had actually snowed the day before the tour, so Yelagin park looked beautiful under a layer of snow, although there was not enough snow for a sleigh ride (carriage ride instead). We had chance to warm up with a warm drink in a souvenir shop after the carriage ride, which was very cold, despite wearing thermals. The vodka museum was out last stop, with an interesting tour about the history of vodka in Russia , followed by a tasting. Special thanks to the driver, who was the best (and safest!) we'd had during our stay.

  • St. Petersburg Metro Tour

    9. St. Petersburg Metro Tour

Entering St. Petersburg subway, you can easily mix the station with the magnificent palace hall or five-star hotel lobby. It’s not an accident! In Soviet times, the subway stations were built as palaces for the people. Many stations are true works of art. They are all made of marble and richly decorated with mosaics, sculptures and stained glass to represent the prosperity and power of Soviet Union. And behind this beauty there’s an astonishing history, jokes, stories and legends. On our Petersburg Metro Tour you will see the most beautiful and historically significant metro stations: Uprising Square, with bas-reliefs on the revolutionary events Avtovo, the true underground palace Kirov Plant, with bas-reliefs of the Soviet heavy industry Admiralty, one of the deepest subway stations in the world

It's a great tour but as we were a big group and the metro stations are noisy, we couldn't really hear what our guide was saying a lot of the time.

Our knowledgeable guide Lida offered us a detailed explanation both for the facts and objects including but for literally any question we posed.
