    1. St. Petersburg: Catherine's Palace & Amber Room Private Tour

Set off on a private tour of Catherine's Palace, departing from St. Petersburg. This tour will introduce you to the Golden Enfilade, a grand suit of formal rooms. You will also see the intricate restored Amber Room. Arrive in Tsarskoye Selo, a town outside of St. Petersburg, and location of the palace. This was the home of the Imperial family from the days of Peter the Great until the time of the last Tsar, Nicolas II. Elena the guide was excellent. Unfortunately the tour was delayed by 45 mins (admittedly prearranged to change from 9.00 to 9.30 but she and also the taxi were late) so when we got to a Peterhof the place was absolutely crowded out with other huge tours so we lost any advantage. The so called VIP entrance was a joke and we queued there for over half an hour all tightly bunched up together. Once inside the staff efficiently moved us through, but it was a race so no time to dwell and look at the Artifacts. I was not aware when booking that the 12th June was a public holiday, though the crowds going into the Palace where nearly all tourists. As said above Elena rose above the difficulty and kept cheerful and professional in very difficult circumstances. By the end of the day we did say we had enjoyed it, but only after a nice lunch in the restaurant there and walk round the grounds. The gold fountains were superb

  • Peterhof Palace and Gardens Half-Day Tour

    4. Peterhof Palace and Gardens Half-Day Tour

Commissioned by Peter the Great, Peterhof is the oldest of the Imperial residences of Russia. Today it is a park complex that includes the principle palace and a number of smaller palaces. The main Palace itself is the unique product of two centuries of work. The original design was worked on by Peter himself and was designed with the Palace of Versailles in mind. Today the palace contains a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures, furniture and much more. Rooms dating back to Peter’s time can be found alongside golden shining baroque halls and calm and austere rooms from the Classical period. Peterhof is often referred to as the Russian Versailles. The idea of creating a residence to rival the luxury of the French Kings was Peter’s ambition and he personally chose the site where several underground water springs were located. Thanks to these underground springs, the amazing...

  • From St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk Palace and Gardens Tour

    7. From St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk Palace and Gardens Tour

The summer palace of Russian Emperor Paul 1, located 20 kilometers south of St. Petersburg, is known worldwide for its exquisite beauty. Explore this architectural wonder with a guide on this 4-hour midday outing. After pickup at your hotel at 10:00 AM, you’ll head to the Palace for a 10:45 AM arrival. Start your excursion with a tour of the palace. At first glance, it looks less pompous than other royal palaces near St. Petersburg; however, it’s beauty truly lies in its architectural conciseness, straight lines, and classical style. Many nobles and grandees across Russia sought to recreate elements of this palace in a more modest form. The Emperor Paul I and his wife Maria Fedorovna, were keen on ancient mythology and sculpture, which they made every effort to incorporate into their residence.   Continue your outing with a tour of Pavlovsk Park, the gardens that surround the palace. A...

Visiting in February we didn't really need the skip-the-line part of this tour as there were no queues, but we did get the benefit of a private tour, as there were just two of us on the tour and the expertise and knowledge of our tour guide. We'd met our guide, Olga, the previous day during our visit to the Hermitage and were looking forward to the tour of Catherine's Palace with her. The Palace is beautiful, breath-taking and stunning. Again Olga's love and passion for art came across during the tour. Olga also pointed out buildings of interest on our journeys, both too and from the Palace. The journey takes about 40 minutes by car, longer by public transport. I booked a transfer as I didn't feel confident in travelling by public transport. After travelling around the centre of St. Petersburg by bus I would consider making my own way there if I were to visit again.

Only the one in the tour do I got the best of everything My tour guide Yana is an exceptional one explaining the history, art, and philosophies of Russia in a very fun manner. She loves what she does and that makes the whole tour better! We had some awesome borscht too after the tour and Alexis the driver toured us around the city too.

Both guide and driver were very knowledgeable and helpful. Pick up and drop off were on time. The car was clean. The guide also explained the history of St. Petersburg as well as outer cities (on our way to the palaces). All in all, it was fun and informative.

Very enjoyable excursion. Personal guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend this tour to anyone.
