What to Expect
Your guide will meet you with the sign at the hotel lobby and will show you the way to the car. A professional driver will bring you to the most important sites of the city. St. Nicholas Naval cathedral will be a charming start of your tour day.
You will cross some rivers and canals and passing Peter the Great’s New Holland you will approach the main river - Neva. The Annunciation Bridge will take you to Basil's Island, where you will do photo stops by the enigmatic Sphinxes in front of the Academy of Fine Arts and drive past Menshikov palace and St. Petersburg State University to do another stop at Spit of Basil's Island. Beautiful panorama of Peter and Paul's fortress and the State Hermitage will open to your eyes. What's more the ensemble of Stock Exchange' Square is remarkable with its red rostral columns and classical buildings.
When you leave Basil's Island you will drive closer to Rabit's Island where Peter and Paul's fortress is located: it is the oldest structure of our city. Today it belongs to the Museum of History of St. Petersburg. Golden steeple of St Peter and Paul's cathedral is crowned with the angel and invites you on a visit inside: to see the burial places of Romanovs and talk about the history, life and drama of Russian royalty and the country in general.
After you visit the territory of the fortress and Peter and Paul's cathedral, you will change islands again and the driver will take you to Petrogradsky Island to see the museum of the Log Cabin of Peter the Great. This is the only wooden house which survived since 1703 and is hidden inside a brick house, which was constructed to protect it.
Driving along the Trinity Bridge you will reach the other side of the Neva and pass the impressive Summer Garden and its world-famous rail, monument to Alexander Suvorov and the Field of Mars, St. Mikhail's castle and Mikhai's garden. You will approach one of the symbolic churches of St. Petersburg. Church on the Spilled Blood is in pseudo-Russian style, it's a memorial to the Tsar Alexander II and one of the biggest mosaic centres of the world.
The next stop will be by The Palace Square - the main one in the city. The Winter Palace, General Staff of the Army building and Alexander's column in the middle will impress you with their beauty and size.
Drive along the main street of St. Petersburg - Nevsky prospect: you will pass by the Russian National library, Gostyni Dvor department store, Grand Hotel Europe and turn to make a loop around the Square of Arts with the State Russian museum and Mihailovsky theatre and then you come back to Nevsky. You will see from the car window Catholic Church of St. Catherine, Kazansky cathedral, Lurtheran Church of St. Apostle Peter and Stroganov Palace, where the famous dish was created.
Driving to the direction of the Admiralty (former shipbuilding yard and nowadays naval headquarters) you will finally turn to the left from Nevsky and approach St. Isaac's Square. The Golden cupola of the fourth-tallest one-dome' cathedral in the world will appear in your pictures along with the marble walls and granite colonnades. The visit inside the church will be even more overwhelming: rich and diverse interior which was used for the main Russian Orthodox church services in Imperial times.
