Step aboard a stable catamaran for a 1.5-hour wildlife experience departing Bay Bulls, a convenient 30-minute drive from St John's, Newfoundland. Discover the incredible sights of the Atlantic from icebergs, puffins, and whales, where sightings vary by season. After checking in and receiving your boarding pass, prepare to explore the incredible Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to over 2.5 million seabirds and one of the largest populations of whales in the North Atlantic.
You'll receive a pre-departure safety briefing and will travel aboard a stable catamaran with a comfortable viewing platform. Enjoy live interpretation along with local stories and songs from an experienced, local guide. Learn a mix of information about the natural and cultural heritage of the area. Discover the sheltered areas of the islands of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve for great opportunities to view and photograph the nesting sites and activities of several seabird species.
Puffins are in large numbers for most of the season. Whale watching is a big part of your adventure with the peak season for encounters typically between mid-June through mid-August. Sightings before and after are a bonus. The Reserve is located at the end of Iceberg Alley, where icebergs pass along the coast each Spring and Summer, while on their journey from Greenland. Early in the season, most often during May and June, icebergs make their last stand in the cold waters of the Atlantic before they melt away.
