Full description

Visit Croatia's first national park, Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of the greatest natural wonders of Europe. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park's unique geology makes for a popular destination for people from all around the world. Meet up in Split and be greeted by your guide and board your transportation for the day. While driving to the park, have the chance to enjoy the beautiful Croatian landscape.

Upon arrival to the park, you will be given a map of the park and told about the day's itinerary. Then, have 4 hours of free time to explore 16 beautiful lakes of crystal blue-green water and hypnotic cascades, tour 7 different routes, hike 4 different trails, or just lounge in the shade.

Plitvice's natural phenomenon causes it to constantly change through sedimentation of calcium carbonate. It creates special kinds of algae and moss, tufa, or travertine which are deposited to form the natural dams that separate the lakes.

See the changing travertine barriers, curtains, stalactites, channels, and cascades being built and the existing ones. Check out interesting caves in which remains of prehistoric settlements have been found. After touring you can also catch a boat or train ride, before heading back to Split.

An amazing day out! Everything was really well organised- the coach ride was comfortable and air conditioned and we stopped for a comfort/coffee break on the way there and back. Out tour guide Vice was fantastic! Went out of his way to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves, took photos for us and knew his stuff! He made the day for us! The scenery is out of this world and worth a visit! Wear comfy shoes - ideally trainers or hiking shoes as sandals or flip-flops won't be ideal and some ground is uneven or loose on the hilly parts. You stop for a lunch break during the tour and there's opportunity to buy food (just fast food options, burgers/hot dogs/ ice cream) so if that's not for you then might be worth taking food along. Overall a brilliant day and would definitely recommend!

This trip was a great introduction to Croatia, in a slightly cooler setting than the coast. The bus ride was around 3.5 hours each way with a break halfway through. It’s a beautiful ride through the country. The park itself is incredible. The tour takes you from top of the park to the bottom along gorgeous paths and boardwalks. It’s about 4 hours with a 30 minute break 2 hours in. Sandra and Z were great guides. Our group was around 45 people. While there were more people in the group than I anticipated it was still a great time and we got plenty of FaceTime with Sandra and Z. They did a great job explaining the park’s history and geology. Definitely recommend this trip if you have a day trip to spare in Croatia and want to see this national park. Note: you cannot swim in this park. That’s the other popular national park with waterfalls.
