  • Reykjavik: Landmannalaugar & Hekla Private Super Jeep Tour

    1. Reykjavik: Landmannalaugar & Hekla Private Super Jeep Tour

Explore the lava fields, explosive volcanic craters, glacial waterfalls, and bubbling hot springs of Landmannalaugar and Hekla on this 10-hour tour by Jeep. The tour kicks off in Reykjavik, where you will climb aboard a special Mountain Taxi Super Jeep. First, hit the fertile farmland in the south, before moving on to epic views of the snow-covered peak of Hekla, Iceland’s most famous active volcano. While Hekla is fairly dormant these days, its last eruption was little over 10 years ago in February of 2000. Since the country was settled in the 9th century, the volcano has erupted about 20 times, often with devastating effects. Hekla was notorious in Medieval Europe when it was believed to be the entrance to hell. The contrasts in landscape are extreme, and the lava and vegetation, shaped by the forces of erosion, make for a spectacular setting. Drive straight up to the edge of the yo...

  • From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Fontana Geothermal Baths

    2. From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Fontana Geothermal Baths

After boarding your transportation in Reykjavik, make your way to Thingvellir National Park. Once there, explore a UNESCO World Heritage site where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia are pulling apart and creating a rift valley with dramatic lava rock formations. It's also the site where Iceland's first parliament was founded, more than 1000 years ago. From Thingvellir, move on to Laugarvatn where you can take a soak in the comfortably warm pools. For almost a century, locals in the community of Laugarvatn have been enjoying the healing powers of natural steam from a geothermal field at the edge of the lake. Built over this geothermal area, the Laugarvatn Fontana wellness center features geothermal steam rooms, hot pools, and outdoor mineral baths, as well as a fantastic view over the lake. You'll also find Fontana café, which offers a nice selection of healthy and locall...

What people are saying about Southern Region, Iceland

fabulous experience!

I enjoyed the jeep tour very much. driving not easy at all, but done well. sights- stunning. and enough time to walk around as well. our guide was very nice and answered all questions (though i would've preferred him giving a bit more guidance while there, but on the whole was just fine!) thank you for a unique experience!

Impressive!

A whole experience the variety of landscapes and places that the super jeep allows you to access. The driver was super friendly and gave us all sorts of explanations and also took pleasure in some potholes when he saw how excited my kids were.

Very nice excursion in minibus with a couple of bonus stops in addition to what was expected. Nice, good guide (Kristin). Sad with fellow passengers who tried to shorten the stops because it was raining.

Was good needed some more extreme 4wd sections tho
