1. South Coast: ATV Quad Bike 2-Hour Safari

The adventure starts with a short safety briefing on how to operate the ATVs. When everyone is ready, it's take-off time, when you'll head for the majestic black sand plains of Sólheimasandur. Cross this desert-like landscape and stop by the famous DC3 plane that crashed on the sands in 1973. The guide will lead the group further over the sands to the spectacular coastline to witness views of the surrounding area. From the beach, see Dyrhólaey peninsula, the southernmost tip of Iceland. From Reykjavik: South Coast and Black Beach ATV Ride

2. From Reykjavik: South Coast and Black Beach ATV Ride

Ride a powerful ATV over a large, black, volcanic beach, walk behind the thundering veil of water at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and take in the incredible view over Iceland's South Coast from the top of the cascade Skógafoss on this fantastic day tour.  After being picked up early in the morning or meeting up with your guide at Reykjavík Terminal, head to Iceland's South Coast, famous for its dramatic coastline and cascading waterfalls. Your first stop is the black desert of Sólheimasandur, in the shadow of Eyjafjallajökull glacier, where you'll swap the bus for a powerful ATV quad-bike.  After traversing the stark, black beaches of Island's South Coast on your ATV bike, make your way to the DC3 plane wreck from 1973, recently seen in Justin Bieber’s music video and photo shoots. Looking northwards and inland, the Mýrdalsjökull glacier rises majestically, while to the south you can sense the raw power of the enormous Atlantic waves crashing on to the shore. Once back on the bus, continue your journey and visit an iconic waterfall duo: Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. The former falls from the heights of 60-metres, and a staircase next to it will lead you to unbelievable views of the South Coast and Iceland's interior. Seljalandsfoss, however, is a narrower cascade which falls over a concave cliff, making it possible to fully encircle the stream of water.

Golden Circle and ATV: Full-Day Combo Tour from Reykjavík

5. Golden Circle and ATV: Full-Day Combo Tour from Reykjavík

Your full day of activity begins at a quad base just a few minutes from the Reykjavík city center. Experience the freedom of driving an ATV up to the top of Mount Hafrafell before hopping on a coach to discover Iceland's' most famous sights on this tour. This tour is the most popular sightseeing tour in Iceland and a must-see for any first-time visitor to the country. You’ll see Þingvellir National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Þingvellir is the national shrine of Iceland, the birthplace of the nation, and the country’s top historical attraction. It is the only place in the world where tectonic plates can be seen above sea level. Next, you’ll visit the Geysir hot spring area. The entire area is on top of a vast, geothermal field dotted with bubbling, multicolored mud pools, hissing steam vents, hot and cold springs, warm streams, and primitive plants. This is where you’ll see the original geyser, after which all others were named. Geysir is dormant most of the time but its successor, Strokkur, erupts every 10 minutes or so and its white column of boiling water can reach heights of 20-30 meters. A few minutes’ drive away is the Gullfoss (Golden Falls) Waterfall. Marvel at the white water thundering down a 32-meter drop into an impressive canyon. On a sunny day, you’ll be able to see a rainbow through the drizzle, and in winter, the scene is even more spectacular, as part of Gullfoss freezes over!

What people are saying about Southern Region, Iceland

This was such an awesome addition to our trip. Victor did a wonderful job leading us along a trail through some short stream crossings, a couple tunnels, out to the black sand beach, to the DC-3 plane crash, and a couple other beautiful stops along the way, both along the beach and in a scenic mountain valley. We were able to have some fun and speed up quite a bit along the smooth sand, while mixing in some gritty terrain, too. I would definitely do this again.

An amazing experience. We had never driven an ATV before but instructions were clear and it was easy to use. Absolutely stunning driving along the black sand beaches and to the plane wreck. Plenty of other fun parts to the drive along the way. It rained the whole time but it honestly did not matter as the clothing provided was enough to keep you clean, warm and dry. Recommend +++

This tour was the highlight of our trip! Our guide Simeon was great and took us on some amazing trails! You go through rivers, onto the beach, and past some airplane wreckage. The end was my favorite when we went through moss covered canyons. Honestly it is well worth the money and I would absolutely do it again! Just book it. You won’t regret it.

When you drive out on the beach next to the giant waves on Solheimasandur you will know every penny was worth it!

Awesome adventure!! A great way to see multiple sites and have fun riding an ATV. I would definitely recommend.
