Our guide was Martin - very energetic and entertaining young man. It is a two hour ride from Sofia and he prepaired videos about Bulgaria to show us on the way. Most of the people in our group were elderly and Martin was very polite and patient. The town of Plovdiv itself very pretty but for me it was a little bit not enough sightseengs. There are lot of craft shops were you can buy different stuff, so take the money. The entrance fee to the Roman theater is 5 lev. And you need to have comfortable shoes because the old town is all paved with big stones

An great day out

The small-group tour was ideal for exploring Plovdiv. The journey time of 2 hours each way was not too strenuous. We had an excellent guided tour for 2 hours when we got there and free time of 90 minutes to have lunch and browse around the shops. Here is the link to my blog about the trip

Delightful tour of Plovdiv

Our guide provided a good but condensed history of the country (after all, it's at least 7,000 years old) before we arrived at Plovdiv, then he led us to key features of the city. Unfortunately, the amphitheatre was closed in preparation for an event, but our guide persevered and made the day a great one.
