Slovenia

Slovenia, situated between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, is a small country with more to see and do than some countries many times its size. With it's underground caves, mountains, vineyards, and medieval villages, and alpine resort towns such as Bled, Slovenia offers up the best of Europe in one pint-sized package.

Because of the small country's size, visitors can easily base themselves out of the dynamic capital city of Ljubljana and take day trips to the rest of the country. A number of tours are available that will whisk the visitor to the caves, vineyards, and medieval villages for which Slovenia is known.

No visit to Slovenia would be complete without tours of the country's beautiful caves. A train will take visitors into the heart of the country's largest cave system, the Postojama Caves. The Postojama Cave is home to the mysterious Predjama castle, with its secret passageway that leads directly into the cave. While in Slovenia, don't miss the opportunity to visit the UNESCO listed Å kocjan Caves, located in Karst. Inhabited since prehistoric times, this cave system houses possibly the largest underground canyon in the world. While in Karst, stop at the Lipica Stud Farms to see the unusual white Karst horses.

For the wine connoisseur, tours are available out of Ljubljana to the vineyards of Goriška Brda and Istria. Both of these regions offer additional sightseeing opportunities such as exploring medieval villages and touring olive plantations. Wine tasting and vineyard tours are also available near Maribou, Slovenia's second largest city.
