  • Bucharest: Salt Mine Day Trip

    1. Bucharest: Salt Mine Day Trip

Discover two extraordinary places in Europe: Slanic Prahova Salt Mine and The Salt Mountain. First, visit the Slanic Prahova, an all-season spa resort, famous for its curative mineral waters and its spectacular Salt Mine, one of the biggest in Europe and famous for its healing effects. The salt mine hall stands at 70 meters tall and the circuit runs around the enormous pillar supporting the mine. There, admire the basso-rilievo works depicting some of the most important figures in Romanian history.  Inside the Salt Mine, you will find a small history museum, a soccer field and a children's playground. The place is also used for various sports events (athletic competitions and as training ground for sport teams), as sanatorium for the elderly and the sick or as a scenery for the film industry. After visiting the Salt Mine, the tour continues to the Salt Museum, where you can find out ab...

  • Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine

    2. Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine

Start the day at the Slanic Salt Mine. This salt mine, located in a wonderful environment was opened for the first time in 1938. In order to reach it, you’ll go 400 meters down. The microclimate inside makes it a favorite spot for both locals and travelers — there’s a constant temperature inside of never more than 54 degrees Fahrenheit (12 degrees Celsius) which is much preferred in a hot summer.  Your next stop will be a unique and odd place: the mud volcanoes. These small volcanoes stand just a few meters above ground and they exist because of a unique combination of water and natural gases creating a moon-like terrain. Next, visit Ciolanu Monastery, well-known for its late 19th-century icons painted by famous artist Gheorghe Tătărescu.

This experience is exceptional in itself. It’s hard to grasp the size of these tunnels and I was awestruck the moment I entered the mine. We were only 3 in total so it was a really small party which I found to be perfect. Dan, our tour-guide, was SUPER friendly, forthcoming and he knows a LOT about Romania in general. The 2 hour drive was like listening to a documentary. In the mines, we had plenty of time to walk around, take pictures and it was just perfect this way. A must do in my opinion! Thank you very much! It was a really inspiring and interesting day! Highly recommended if you’re into marvels of technology!

an unforgettable experience. You know people from all over the world. Be friends and share experiences and cultures. Mr Daniel's exellent treatment. Time flies. I recommend the people that I take. thanks for everything. Marc from Spain (Lleida)
