On this wonderful 6 hour tour from Akureyri, visit some of the highlight of North Iceland and enjoy the quintessential Icelandic experience, soaking outdoors in the natural heated waters of a geothermal hot-springs. Your tour begins at Akureyri´s cruise ship terminal. Our tour schedule is tailored to fit your docking times so you needn´t worry about being back late to the docks. We also provide packed lunches so that we can devote more time to sightseeing. You can choose between a chicken or vegan packed lunch. Just tell your guide at the start of the tour. The first stop of the day is to the picturesque surrounding of Góðdafoss waterfall. The waterfall is winder than it is high and curves in a crescent shape. Góðafoss is noteworthy for a symbolic role in Icelandic history, when a local chieftain threw his pagan statues into the falls, representing the moment Icelanders adopted christianity. We continue onto Lake Mývatn and view this unique landscape from a special viewing point. The Mývatn area and its strange landscape was heavily affected by volcanic forces, with ancient eruptions resulting in the pseudo craters that dot the lake and surrounding areas. The highlight of the day is arguably our visit to Mývatn Nature Baths, the blue lagoon of the north. The water here is naturally heated by geothermal forces below the surface and is said to have healing properties. Lounge and relax in the various pool areas and enjoy spectacular views of Mývatn. Our last stop of the day is at Námaskarð geothermal area. Here mud-pools and hot-pools dot the area. Steam and the smell of sulphur lingers in the area. This barren landscape seems a world away from the green craters on Lake Mývatn. We return to Akureyri and our tour ends at your cruise ship.

Lake Myvatn Classic tour travels through some of the most spectacular and unique landscapes in Iceland. On this tour you will see waterfalls, lava sculptures, bubbling mud pits and steaming vents, underground caves, volcanoes, craters and end the day relaxing in the geothermal waters of the Nature baths. This 4th biggest lake in Iceland is surrounded by lava fields, craters, panoramic views and amazing bird life. This tour takes you to: Dimmuborgir a unique area of lava sculptures and rock formations, Hverir where you can explore the steaming and bubbling mud pits, the underground caves at Grjótagjá. Ending the day at the Myvatn Nature Baths where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the geothermal waters. A day at Lake Myvatn is a day to remember. The tour departs from Akureyri. The first stop gives you the best views over Akureyri and Eyjafjörður. After a short photo stop we drive on to Goðafoss waterfall. One of Iceland´s most beautiful and uniquely shaped waterfalls. Here we tell you why the falls are important in Icelandic history and give you enough time to explore the area close up. Then we head on to Myvatn. We stop at the pseudo craters for a short while before continuing on to Dimmuborgir. Dimmuborgir is a unique and very interesting area. Visitors are given time to walk among the unusual lava sculptures, pillars and caves. Our guides know everything about this area and will be happy to walk with you and explain how the area was created 2,500 years ago, as well as tell you a few folktales about the local trolls. After a lunch break overlooking Dimmuborgir, we visit the former nature baths located on the tectonic plates between Europe and America. The last volcanic eruption in Myvatn was in 1984 from the volcano Krafla and lava from this eruption is visible everywhere you look. Hverir is an area of bubbling sulphur mud pits and steaming vents, watch your step as you explore this unique area! The Myvatn Nature Baths is our final stop and we recommend you enjoy this optional extra. The geothermal waters are the perfect place to relax before driving back to Akureyri. During the winter months the frost, low lying sun and often snow add something extra to this amazing tour of Myvatn.

Explore the natural beauty of Iceland during a day tour of Goðafoss Waterfall and Lake Mývatn. Visit a local hot spring and bathe in the soothing water of the nature baths. Leave Akureyri and drive along the scenic coast of Eyjafjordur, one of the longest fjords in the country. The first stop will be Goðafoss, a breathtaking 39-foot-tall waterfall, located in the Skjálfandafljót River. Next, head to Lake Mývatn, whose landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms due to a lava eruption 2,300 years ago. Continue on to the cave of Grjótagjá and stop at the hot spring area at Hverarönd in Námaskarð.
