Skjervoy: RIB Boat Whale Watching Tour

3. Skjervoy: RIB Boat Whale Watching Tour

Every year at the end of October, huge shoals of herrings arrive around Skjervoy and the Kvanangen Fjord 3.5 hours North East of Tromso. Hundreds of Orcas and many Humpback whales follow these shoals of herring and stay around Skjervoy until the end of January. For your whale watching excursion, you will be picked from the meeting point in Skjervoy, and provided with a warm floatation suit. You will then board a small RIB boat to head out to see. You will see many whales, and even hear and smell them. Enjoy their company and take as many photos as you like. It will be cold, so make sure you bring warm and waterproof clothes for the excursion. We will give you flotation suits that you will wear on top of your own clothes. An experienced instructor will be there to answer any questions you might have about the whales or the area. When the excursion is over, you will have sandwiches, tea and coffee in the local operator's office to warm you up.

Excellent experience. The morning started early followed by a 4 hour drive. Once we arrived we were suited up with all the gear. The goggles need to be replaced, most were broken or cracked and several had water in between the layers. The whale watching is not for the faint hearted. The guide, however, was fantastic. She did a great job getting us close but not too close to the animals. The experience was so great that they kept us out even longer than scheduled. Then we took the bus to the location for the overnight stay. We had a sandwich for lunch but I would suggest more refreshments be provided due to the long hours on the bus. A 5:30 departure should come with some sort of breakfast or snack and we had nothing to drink for almost 10 hours. The overnight stay was very pleasant. Food was delicious and the hosts gave us a brief overview of the aurora and told us what to expect for the evening. The lavvos we're cozy and comfortable. Overall, a wonderful tour.

The whole activity was amazing from start to finish. From the perfectly executed logistics to the customer service across the entire trip. That's before experiencing two once in a lifetime events - watching wild orcas swimming in the Arctic and viewing the spectacular northern lights. We booked the trip last minute and what appeared to be fairly expensive on the face of things was actually unbelievable value when you throw in the transport, catering, accomodation, activities etc. Could not recommend enough!

It was an amazing tour! We couldn’t see orcas because we had to return to the harbour due to the weather but on the other hand, we managed to see an spectacular night of aurora at a privilege location. The lavvos were amazing and the staff working there really nice and helpful.

Total commitment from the team.. made for a long and successful day! Thank you!

It was a unique experience that I can only recommend.
