  • Catania: Mount Etna Trek and Cave Tour

    1. Catania: Mount Etna Trek and Cave Tour

Following your pickup, you will head in the direction of Etna. Passing off road through Trazzere where you can see the lava flows of 1792, your guide will explain the fauna and flora of the volcano of Etna. They will tell you of Mount Etna's history as you travel in the direction of the Bove Valley, which is an ancient caldera formed about 64,000 years ago due to a collapse of 2 major eruptive centers. You'll soon arrive at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, where your hike starts. Follow quiet trails away from the tourist paths. Pass recent lava flows and soak up views of the coastline. During the trip you'll see the southeastern crater, Etna's most active area. Throughout the trek you can stop to taste sandwiches and local products, and will visit inside a lava cave with helmets and flashlights. At the conclusion of your experience, you will be returned back to your point of...

I absolutely loved the tour! Our guide was super friendly, had great (English) communication skills and was very informative. As we needed to do a covid test (for our flight back home) in the early morning before the tour (pick-up 8.15/8.30h), our guide suggested we could come over to their second stop (to buy lunch before the tour) at 9.30h. We just made it with a taxi! The guide bought our lunch, because we payed for the taxi. Which was very kind of him! Also he has knowledge about (medicine) plants. This was awesome!

  • Catania: Half-Day Buggy Tour of the Etna Volcano

    2. Catania: Half-Day Buggy Tour of the Etna Volcano

Explore the Etna volcano by buggy on this unique 4-hour activity. After a quick briefing on how to drive your buggy, head off with the guide to the villages of Pedara and Nicolosi. Continue along a track that passes an old lava rock quarry, and experience the buggy’s off-road abilities. Drive on a scenic road leading to Rifugio Sapienza. After a coffee break, take a walk around the top of the Silvestri Craters. Next, take the road down to the Cassone lava cave. Enjoy a quick visit inside, equipped with a helmet and a flashlight. Continue on the route, stopping to admire the immense Valle del Bove from Mount Zoccolaro on the way to Zafferana Etnea, Viagrande and San Gregorio.

This was really an off-the-road experience. The buggy was ready, perfectly functioning and completely safe. You are accompanied by a professional person who explains you how to drive and also something about the environment. You see the Etna environment from really very close. Pls note that the start and ending point is not in the city center of Catania, but a bit outside. A taxi ride costs 40 euro one-way. For me, after 4 hours driving, I had enough of the noise of the buggy.

  • From Catania: Mount Etna Sunset Tour

    3. From Catania: Mount Etna Sunset Tour

This beautiful sunset tour of the famed Etna volcano is truly a must-see. Begin with a stop in Zafferana Etna, a little town on the Eastern side Mount Etna, popular for its honey production. Visit one of the town's most famous organic farms for a delicious sampling of typical local products, including honey and wine. Continue on the tour to a lava cave created during the 1792 eruption, and enter the stunning site to learn about lava flow and the forces that create them. Then stroll along the mountain trails to Mount Etna's Sapienza Refuge, and enjoy a pleasant walk around the lava flows created from the latest eruptions and the ancient Silvestri craters dating back to the 1892 eruption. From this supreme peak, watch the sun set over the breathtaking landscape before returning to your hotel in the evening.

Great trip! The guide online didn’t say to bring warm clothes. The honey spot was a little weird as they didn’t offer wine like the guide online stated and it was very quick stop. The cave was cool as well, but the sunset at the crater was amazing!

Really great way to explore Etna and not just take a bus to the mid-station to quickly look around. We wanted to hike but were mostly unprepared with equipment so we chose this trip, where they offer you hiking boots, warm jackets and sticks (if you need/want them). The tour also stops before the hike so you can buy yourself some food if you didn't come prepared. They make sure that you have everything you need, proper clothing, food, water. The hike itself is around 3 hours, a lot of climbing up and pretty quick walk down. The pace is fast, not too fast but you need a bit of stamina to keep up. The guides are also great, full of energy and joy and could answer any questions we had. The only recommendation I have is to maybe have less time when we are just sitting, I guess this is especially true in cold weather, when you are freezing without moving :) Would really really recommend!

Loved every second of the tour. It was a spontaneous decision, so I didn't have proper shoes, clothes or equipment, but the guides provided everything necessary. Along with interesting stories and facts about Etna, jokes and useful tips about Catania. Totally a must!
