Discover the mysteries of the Khmer Empire on a 6-hour tour of the ruins of Angkor Wat, and learn the story of the vast complex from an expert guide. Marvel at elaborate carved hallways and bas reliefs of King Suryavarman II’s mausoleum.
What to Expect
Uncover the mysteries of Angkor Wat, one of the wonders of the world, and built during the Khmer Empire of the 9th to 13th centuries.
Following a pick-up from your hotel in Siem Reap, transfer to the Angkor Wat complex, where a guide will tell the history of the Khmer civilization and how it ruled over most of mainland Southeast Asia.
Stroll among intricately carved hallways that show hundreds of carvings, and discover small shrines still in use by locals today. The former Hindu, and later Buddhist, temple complex was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in what was Yasodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire. Built as his state temple, it was later used as his mausoleum.
The ruins will give you an insight into how the king broke with the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, and dedicated his temple to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation.
