What to Expect
A lake stretches before you without end and birds fly overhead. Here at Tonle Sap Lake, near Siem Reap, experience nature like you've only seen it in picture books - the tour of Kompong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get here.

Set on the floodplains of Tonle Sap Lake, Kompong Phluk is a floating village whose name means 'harbor of the tusks'. Starting at 8:00, set out on a Tara boat for the great Kompong Phluk. Let your expert guide teach you about the culture, lifestyle and ecosystem of this fascinating place.

On your way out to the floating village, make two stops. First, pass by rice paddies and lotus fields for the opportunity to stop and take photographs of the lotus flowers, a deeply important flower in Buddhism. Next, stop at the stilted houses just before the lake to see how the water levels affect the way locals live and take a look at a floating school.

After that, stop by a crocodile and fish farm at Chong Khneas. Snap a few photos of the crocodiles or catfish before getting back on a boat for a ride through Chong Khneas. Witness everyday life on the lake. There truly is a floating city out there, and fishermen, boat-makers, markets, schools, and waving children are always just a glance away.

Departing from the Chong Khneas, cross the great Tonle Sap Lake to visit the Stilted Houses and Flooded Forest of Kompong Phluk. Trade your mini Tara boat and into a smaller rowing boat and let the adventure begin. The trees tower above as you gently glide through the city. During the dry season, the houses rise like giants nearly 18 feet or 6 meters above you, while during the rainy season, you'll be right at door level!

After staying on the water for so long, it's time to take a look into a school and pagoda in the center of the village to get a real sense of how the locals live. It's an incredible journey, and you are lucky enough to be there!

Finally, dock at the famous Queen Tara, in the heart of the floating village. Enjoy a fabulous lunch with cold drinks. Afterwards, the time is yours to absorb the grandeur of the lake in front of you. At the end of the day, enjoy a return transfer to your hotel or guesthouse.
