Lake Tonle Sap is the lifeblood of Cambodia, one of the world's largest freshwater bodies and home to hundreds of floating fishing villages.
What to Expect
Tonle Sap is called "the Great Lake" and is one of the two main topographical features of Cambodia. During the rainy season, it can swell from 3,000 to 7,500 square kilometers. Tonle Sap is also one of the world’s richest sources of freshwater fish.
Today, you will travel by Remork (a Cambodian Tuk Tuk) for about 30 minutes to Mechrey and then cruise along a canal past floating villages and stilted fishing villages on the Tonle Sap Lake. See seasonal Cambodian agriculture and aquaculture activities such as the making of Prahok (Cambodian fish paste) at a duck farm, lotus and cricket harvesting and explore a local village along the way.
