What to Expect
The ancient Khmer capital of Angkor is today one of the most remarkable and impressive sights in all of Asia. For much of its 600 years, the Angkor Empire’s regional power was unmatched, and under a number of its 'god-kings', such as Jayavarman the 7th, the artistic exploits of the Khmer kingdom were unrivalled. With your trusted Cambodian cycle guide to show you the way and an experienced temple guide following in a support vehicle, you can enjoy an interesting, exciting, and totally different way to visit Angkor.
Although the temples are the main attraction, one of the most remarkable facets of Angkor is that it is at the heart of a bustling Khmer countryside community. Not only is the town of Siem Reap close by but there are dozens of farming communities scattered around the historical park. You can encounter the ordinary Cambodian people going about their everyday life in this extraordinary place.
You will ride to the Angkor temple complex before starting the Grand Circuit, stopping at each major temple area. At sunset you will return to the temples by car for a sunset view from Phnom Bakheng.
You will enter the temple complex by a much quieter gate and then ride into the countryside, turning off the main tourist road to Banteay Srei and visiting Banteay Samre on the way.
Today you will leave the crowds behind and head towards the small village of Roulous, home to some of the earliest permanent structures built by the Khmers, before heading to the floating village of Kampong Phluck. After a boat tour around the village you will cycle or drive back to Siem Reap.
