What to Expect
Once called the “Paris of the Orient,” Shanghai has emerged from its revolutionary doldrums and is set to put the French “City of Lights” in the shade. On this 4-hour tour of the Shanghai Museum - not just the city’s finest museums, but one of the best museums in the world - you will see relics dating back over 5,000 years.
The museum moved to its current site at People’s Square in 1995 and the urn-shaped building is one of the most impressive new structures in the city and an attraction in itself.
Once inside, explore the galleries to view intricate jade carvings, imperial furniture, ceramics, coins and calligraphy.
You will want to visit several items of special importance, including one of 3 extant specimens of a "transparent" bronze mirror from the Han Dynasty. Galleries not to be missed include the Ceramics Gallery, Painting Gallery and Gallery of Bronzes.
Your tour includes the services of a local guide who will tell you fascinating facts about Chinese culture and traditions as you tour.
