What to Expect
Named after a Tang Dynasty poet, the ancient water town of Luzhi is gifted with favorable terrain and outstanding people. It faces the Wusong River to the north, Chenghu Lake to the south, Kunshan City to the east, and Suzhou to the west.
Famed as "The Venice of the East" for its beautiful waterways and ancient bridges, some of which date back to the Song Dynasty, Luzhi offers scenic walks through Chinese history, and streets that are frozen in time. Experience the tranquility and serenity of this magical place, just 1.5 hours from Shanghai.
You will be picked up at your hotel at 09:00, and upon arrival in Luzhi visit the Baoshen Temple, the most famous Buddhist temple of the city. Learn about its 1,000-year history and 5,000 halls. Continue to the South China Culture Garden and Yeshentao Memorial Hall, named after a prominent author and publisher.
Admire characteristic houses, exemplified by the Shen Residence, and continue after lunch to the Waishenkai Rice store and former residence of Xiao Fangfang. Go to Zhangling Park where the central hillock is said to be the tomb of Prime Minister Zhang Cang. Finally, take a boat tour of the picturesque canals, before your transfer back to Shanghai.
