What You'll Do
  • Take a walk along Shanghai’s waterfront and admire the colonial architecture of the Bund
  • Visit the area known as the French Corner and see the contrasting western and oriental influences
  • Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant
Overview
See the colonial-era buildings that line the Bund on Shanghai’s waterfront, on a half-day guided tour. Stroll through the beautiful French Concession and visit the former home of a famous resident. Stop for a lunch break at a local restaurant as well.
What to Expect
On this half-day tour you’ll visit the Bund, Shanghai's famous waterfront that stretches along the west shore of the Huangpu River, forming the eastern boundary of old downtown Shanghai. Today it boasts a marvelous promenade, perfect for a stroll along the busy river.

Just across the wide avenue that parallels the promenade is Shanghai's signature cityscape, a long wall of colonial-era European buildings erected by foreign governments, trading houses, and expatriate millionaires during the prosperous 1920s and 1930s.

On the other side of the river, casting the shadow of Shanghai's future over its colonial past, are the modern towers of the city's remarkable economic boom. Marvel at the skyscrapers of the Pudong New Area that include some of the world's tallest structures – the high-tech pagodas of the 21st century.

Visit the French Corner and experience the strong contrast of western and oriental styles. Visit the former residence of Moller, a foreign adventurer dealing with the horse and dog racing gambling business in Shanghai in 1920s.

He built his garden villa along what is the present-day Shanxi Nanlu Road in 1936. See the unique compound characterized by high and low steep roofs and convex and concave surfaces. There are 2 main towers and small pointed pagodas were built on the edges and corners of the buildings.

The firebrick structure was painted a reddish brown and embedded with colorful ceramic bricks. The interior features various-sized rooms with unusual, complicated decorations. The wallboards, embellished with Western-style carvings, and the stairs and floors were all made of teak.
