See the best of Beijing and Shanghai on a 6-day, 5-night tour that begins in China’s capital. You’ll visit the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, and more, before taking the high-speed train to Shanghai. Admire the centuries-old Yu Garden, visit the French Concession and The Bund, and take in one of the city’s famed skyscrapers as well.
Day 1: Beijing (L/D)
You’ll be picked up at your hotel or other agreed location and begin your tour of Beijing with a visit to the site that witnessed the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Tiananmen Square is of one the world’s most impressive public plazas and is located at the center of Beijing.
Visit the Forbidden City, and explore the halls of the largest ancient palatial structure in the world, the best-preserved imperial palace in China, and a site of great historical importance. Enjoy lunch at a local Chinese restaurant afterwards.
In the afternoon, your guide will take you to see the Temple of Heaven. The site is a masterpiece of imperial style and architecture. In the evening you can relax over dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Beijing (B/L/D)
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll take a drive to the Badaling section of the Great Wall. Enjoy this testament to Chinese engineering and ingenuity, a monument to human endeavor set against a backdrop of stunning scenery. Your visit includes a cable car ride.
Tour the Changling Tomb, the resting place of the third Ming emperor and a magnificent example of Ming Dynasty architecture.
Later you’ll stop to see the exteriors of the Water Cube and the Bird’s Nest sites from the 2008 Summer Olympics. Enjoy a Chinese lunch and then dinner at a local restaurant later.
Day 3: Beijing (B/L/D)
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel before visiting the Summer Palace. A former retreat for the imperial family, the Summer Palace provides a range of striking views, including Kunming Lake. Its historic buildings and courtyards are beautifully decorated.
You’ll have a Chinese lunch at a local restaurant, and then weave your way through the meandering passageways of Beijing’s historic hutongs by rickshaw.

Day 4: Beijing to Shanghai (B/D)
After breakfast you’ll be transferred to the Beijing railway station, where you’ll board the high-speed train to Shanghai.
After arriving at the Shanghai railway station, you can arrange your own lunch before starting to explore the city.
Next you can take a stroll along Nanjing Lu, a well-known shopping boulevard that’s bustling with energy and bright lights. While you’re in the area you can also check out The Bund.
Conclude the day with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 5: Shanghai (B/L/D)
Start off with breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will then take you to see the Yu Garden. Located in the old city center, Yu Garden is a wonder of classical design constructed 400 years ago during the Ming period. The massive city of Shanghai has sprung around this older relative but has left it to grow old peacefully, providing a fascinating window into the past.
Next you’ll take a walk through the rest of the Old City and then check out some ancient Chinese art in the Shanghai Museum. Enjoy Chinese lunch at a local restaurant.
Explore the French Concession for a glimpse into Shanghai’s colonial past. Visit the 88-story-tall Jin Mao Tower, an iconic sight in Shanghai’s skyline, and until 2007 was the tallest building in China.

Day 6: Departure from Shanghai (B)
After breakfast at the hotel you’ll enjoy time at leisure to see more of the city’s sights or to do some shopping. Later in the day you’ll be picked up at the hotel and transferred to the airport for your departing flight.
