What to Expect
Explore the story of the Chinese teacher, philosopher, and politician Confucius on a full-day tour of his hometown Qufu from Jinan. Visit his former home, the cemetery on the banks of the Sishui River containing his tomb, and the Kong Family Mansion, where direct descendants of Confucius went to live.

Following a pick-up from your hotel in Jinan at 07:30, drive about 2.5 hours south by air-conditioned vehicle to Qufu, former Capital of the Kingdom of Lu. Upon arrival, you will go to the Cemetery of Confucius (Kong Lin), often referred to as the “Confucian Forest” for its more than 10,000 mature trees. See the tomb marking where he is buried, as well as the graves of hundreds of his descendants.

After a break for lunch, tour the Temple of Confucius (Kong Miao), the largest and most famous of all the temples of Confucius in East Asia, and the 2nd largest historical building in China after the Forbidden City. Wander among the many courtyards, and admire the yellow tiles of the roof (usually reserved for emperors), as well as the contrasting pine trees.

Continue to the Kong Family Mansion (Yanshenggong Mansion), located just east of the temple complex. Discover where the descendants of Confucius went to live, and learn about the power and wealth of the Kong family, owners of the largest private estate in China, as you explore some of the more than 150 buildings and courtyards of the vast complex.

Transfer to Qufu Train Station, where you are free to catch the bullet train onwards to Shanghai or Beijing. This is not included in the tour cost, but your guide will be happy to help with arrangements.
