Be picked up at your accommodation and head to Sfakia. Board a ferry to Agia Roumeli, where you’ll begin your hike to Samaria Gorge. Walk for 3km until you reach the national park entrance. Continue your walk to Samaria Gorge. Once at Samaria Gorge, you can choose where you want to explore and for how long. After the walk to Samaria Gorge, walk back to Agia Roumeli. In Agia Roumeli, you can go for a swim, enjoy some coffee or try some local food. Catch the ferry back to Sfakia at the end of the day. Once in Sfakia, take the bus back to your accommodation.

Start with pickup from your and meet your guide for the day. Drive up into the White Mountains to the famous Askifou Plateau. After a short coffee break, travel along ravines and gorges to the village of Chora Sfakion, a former rebel stronghold against Venetian and Turkish occupations in centuries past. Following the rugged south coast, enjoy the views of Gavdos, the southernmost island of Europe. Arrive at the picturesque village of Plakias and enjoy some free time for relaxation and swimming in the crystal-clear Libyan Sea. On the way back along the north coast, stop at the Kourtaliotiko Gorge. Walk down approximately 200 steps to the bottom of the gorge and enjoy the views of a beautiful waterfall. Finally, be returned to your hotel.

Leaving Chania, you will venture into a completely different landscape, going deep into the unique region of Sfakia. Your first stop of the day is at a family owned small-scale cheese factory for a Cretan cheese and yoghurt tasting. You will learn about the traditional local production from this expert cheesemonger, and have the opportunity to sample what locals consider to be the best yoghurt on the island. Afterwards, you’ll head to Askifou Plateau at an altitude of 730m, a picture-perfect valley surrounded by the White Mountains. From there, you’ll start your hike into the 8km Imbros Gorge. It is an easy walk for the whole family with multiple stops for photos and discussions around the flora and fauna in the area. The gorge is spectacular, with several very narrow passages. Your guide will share thrilling stories about how this area was used by Australia, New Zealand and British soldiers in the war. Then, get ready to experience the local culture through gastronomy with your hands-on food workshop. Amongst the delicious flavours and aromas mixed in with local wine, you will discover the secrets of local cuisine while you enjoy a traditional meal, delicious desserts and locally-farmed fruit. At the end of the day, enjoy a glass of wine as you will visit one of the best wineries in Crete for a tasting. You can taste 4 different wine varieties in the traditional cellar, taking in the experience with all of your senses. The tasting is a fitting finale in Crete’s Far West.

Mostly there’s not much thing we had to take care due our tour guide’s absolutely reliable professionalism. Also, pro tip to not bring many water bottle, ‘cause you can find fountains at certain rest areas and refill. Backpack, sportshoes recommended. Pay attention to the given map carefully! Have cash by yourself for tickets later!!

Very long and very hot, exhausting day but so worth it to visit the gorge! Please be prepared with actual hiking shoes or you will not make it through the entire hike. Water is frequently available at rest areas on the journey. The gorge is worth it and beautiful!
