Full description
Discover one of Spain’s most extraordinary buildings on a 1.5-hour guided tour of the Alcazar in Seville. Meet your guide on the Plaza del Triunfo to skip the long lines to the building, started by the Cordoban governors of Seville in 913. Learn the history of the Alcazar, and how it expanded over its 11 centuries of existence. Enter the ornate complex to see the exquisite additions of the Almohads when they turned into a fortress in the 12th century. Travel through time as you hear tales of the Christian Fernando III, who moved into the Alcázar when he captured Seville in 1248. See architectural evidence of the Moorish Muslim rulers, government officials, court servants, and royal guard. Marvel at one of the most outstanding examples of Mudéjar architecture on the Iberian Peninsula. Experience the palace and gardens with all your senses, from the sound of the fountains, to the fragrance of flowers, to the intricate Mudéjar plaster work and beams in the Patio del León.

We arranged this tour at the last minute and paid a steep price (much more than it would have cost when we first considered booking). The initial meeting in the square was very disorganized, with four different English language tours starting at the same time (2:50 p.m. on Jan 2), but once we finally got going I was very impressed. Our guide, Lina, was excellent! Very knowledgeable and funny and engaging and she navigated our group expertly though the very crowded spaces. She also kept the information coming but without being overwhelming. Our whole family (two middle aged parents, two teen aged kids) loved this tour and especially loved this guide.

Undoubtedly, the Alcazar must be included in the visit to Seville and the ranks and the fact that they tell you things makes it worthwhile is a guided tour. The only complaint would be that the guide left us too soon. It wasn't included visiting the garden with him but we saw other guides with groups around the gardens.

We barely made it, but we were SO glad we did. We were supposed to meet the “purple umbrella ☂ “ at 9:15am with the tour supposed to start at 9:30. *We also called the day before and changed our reservation to the next day. We got there at 9:28am- they were waiting for us! We joined the rest of the group and bypassed atleast a few hundred people waiting in line. It was gorgeous. We are very glad we went! TRULY Beautiful.
