What to Expect
On this full-day cultural excursion from Sedona you’ll travel across Diné Bikéyah, or Navajoland.
Your destination is the Hopi Nation and Reservation, to visit villages atop all 3 of the high rock Hopi Mesas. The Hopi people have a history in the southwest U.S. that spans more than 2,000 years.
The adventure begins in Sedona with a drive to Old Oraibi on Third Mesa, considered to be the oldest continually inhabited settlement in North America, dating to 1050. On arrival a native Hopi guide will tell you about the tribe’s history and cultural and spiritual traditions. Visit the gift shop and meet some of the area’s artisans.
Next, you’ll enjoy an authentic Hopi meal with your guide at the Hopi Cultural Center of the Indian Nation on Second Mesa. Visit the Hopi Museum and Art Gallery and take some time to shop and admire the amazing works.
The final stop on your day’s spiritual adventure is the village of Walpi on First Mesa, the most original of all of the Hopi settlements. Take a walk with your Hopi guide, who will tell you more about the traditions of the Hopi people.
Meet with the local people in their homes and share their culture and history first-hand. Visit with artisans including basket makers, pottery makers, and Kachina doll carvers.
