Overview
Enjoy the unique haven of San Juan Island on a full-day excursion from Seattle. A refuge for wildlife, search for orcas, sea lions, and seals as you kayak in the Haro Strait and visit Lime Kiln State Park.
What to Expect
This full-day excursion offers a unique opportunity to spot orca whales in the wild as you head to the peaceful haven of San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest.

The day starts with convenient pick-up from your Seattle hotel or cruise terminal for the drive through the Skagot Valley.

Board the ferry for the cruise to Friday Harbor, keeping an eye out for resident porpoise, California sea lions, and seals. You might also see river otters, orca whales, and many types of sea birds.

Head across the island to Roche Harbor, where you will enjoy a guided 3-hour orca search by kayak in Haro Strait. Your expert naturalist guide will provide details about the remarkable landscape and animal life throughout.

Seeing orca whales is a bonus as they don’t always play ball, but the adventure almost always rewards you with close sightings of harbor seals, great blue heron, bald eagles, and river otter, in addition to the colorful inter-tidal marine life.

You will explore 3 wildlife refuges as you paddle along remote rugged coastline, all the while taking in the spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and Mount Baker. Visit a cormorant rookery before heading to Lighthouse Park for a picnic lunch and glass of wine.

Keep your eyes out and your camera at the ready in Lime Kiln Point State Park. The only state park in America devoted to observing magnificent orca whales, you can sometimes be remarkably close if they surface or breach just off shore.

If time permits you will visit the historic American and British “Pig War” camps, where the opposing armies were encamped during a post-Civil War boundary dispute between the United State and England.

As evening sets, visit an island winery or the Pelindaba Lavender Farm before heading back to the ferry or taking an optional flight.
