What to Expect
Travel the old trading trail of the Apache and go back to a place time forgot. Visit the Superstition Mountains, pristine lakes, and the world famous Roosevelt Dam.
Next, marvel at Fish Creek Canyon, a place where the road hangs on to the side of the canyon for dear life. The high-walled ravine winds its way along tremendous precipices that sink hundreds of feet below. It's not for the weak of heart!
Then take a short hike up to Tonto National Monument Ruins and get a closer look at the ancient home of the Salados Cliff Dwellers (AD 1150). This well preserved Salados Indian cliff dwelling looks down on Lake Roosevelt, and is a perfect spot for photo buffs.
This drive is one of the top three scenic routes in all of Arizona. Tour length is 7 to 8 hours, and includes a full day of beauty and an adventure along with lunch at the “Buslin” town of Tortilla Flat (population: 6).
