Experience the expansive thrills of the Four Peaks Wilderness on this 5-hour sightseeing tour from Phoenix and Scottsdale. Centered on a major mountain range in the Tonto National Forest, it soars to a height of 7,657 ft. at Brown’s Peak.
What to Expect
Ride out to true cowboy country on this spectacular excursion from downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale. With convenient hotel pick-ups, you will soon be driving through the old West towards towering mountains and deep gorges.
The highlands are covered with a carpet of Ponderosa Pines and Douglas Firs. There is even a few aspen on the north side of Brown's Peak. Below that you'll find dense thickets of Pinon, Manzanita and Gambel Oak.
Watch as splendid grasslands blend into the Ocotillo, Cholla, Paloverde and Saguaro cacti growth so typical of the Sonoran Desert. See canyons that are shaded with Sycamores and Cottonwoods. The area is dense with Black Bears, but look out too for skunks, ring-tailed cats, javelinas and mountain lions.
This is forbidding countryside, full of fascinating yarns. You will hear the story of Jacob Waltz - Arizona's famous "Lost Dutchman" – who traveled through the wilderness to shake off any would-be followers seeking control of his legendary gold mine in the Superstition Mountains.
Enjoy magnificent scenery as you travel to great heights and visit Roosevelt Lake. Then sit back and relax for the return journey to Phoenix.
