This mountain bike tour takes you to explore the Andes Mountains up to 2500 meters in El Yeso Reservoir, the largest freshwater reserve in Santiago.
What to Expect
Begin this tour from your hotel and head towards the Andes Mountains and the Cajon del Maipo area located 50 kilometers from Santiago. The road will skirt the Maipo River, which accompanies you with a great view over the Andes foothills. After proceeding for an hour, the tour continues by driving up to the El Yeso Reservoir, situated 100 kilometers from Santiago and 2500 meters above sea leave.
At El Yeso Reservoir, the largest freshwater reservoir of the Metropolitan region, you will start the first bike ride (8 kilometers round trip - approximately 1-hour) bordering the reservoir that offers unique views of the Andes with the possibility to ride till the end of the reservoir. After finishing, have breakfast/ outdoor picnic while enjoying the fresh air and the surrounding mountains.
Next, start the second part of the mountain bike tour and ride down (approximately 2-hours) on a route that consists of hard packed dirt, gravel, and pavement road. There will be stops at view points, rivers, and waterfalls containing natural, crystal clear water originating from the Andeas and the glaciers. End your downhill ride at approximately 1500 meters, where you will pack your bikes back to the vehicle and start the return journey back to Santiago, recharged by fresh air and a great adventure.
