Full description
Your full-day tour leaves San Cristobal de las Casas for the 90-minute transfer to Agua Azul. When you reach this series of glittering cascades you’ll have free time to immerse yourself in the pools, and later you’ll see Misol Ha, the highest waterfall in Mexico. In the Sierra Madre de Chiapas Mountains you’ll marvel at Agua Azul, a series of cascades and shallow pools of limestone-rich water. You can follow the movement of the water down a series of natural dams to the point where it ends the clear, waist-deep Shumulhá River. During April and May, the dry months, the water is a shimmering blue due the high amount of limestone present. In the rainy season the color is diluted because of the increased volume of water. These beautiful cascades continue on for miles across lush valleys and canyons. The Mayan archaeological site at Palenque is your next stop on the tour. Palenque was a Mayan city-state that flourished during the 7th century. The ruins that have been unearthed date as far back as 226 B.C, with the most recent dating to the fall of Palenque, which occurred around 1123 A.D. Palenque is a medium-sized site, much smaller than some of the major Mayan sites, but it contains some of the finest Mayan architecture, sculpture, and bas-relief carvings found to date.

satisfied with the views, but not an easy option for one day trip

if you have a chance to travel to Palenque area, rather do it instead of doing the one day trip. if you dont have it, this is I guess the cheapest version you can do from San Christobal. the minivan is really small, the roads are bad...but for us the waterfalls + palenque was worth. it is only about where are the limits of your comfort and how many time do you have for travels.

Mooi maar te lang rijden om in 1 dag te doen

The things you see and do are great. The minivan is much to small voor tall persons like me. The driver has no other option than to race over the curvy and bumpy mountainroads to livecto his timeschedule To be honest i didnt have no other option... At 4 am you are in front of your hotel at 10.30 you are back totallly shaked up cus of the many bumps and curves in the roads. The best place to do this tour from is Palengue an not San Crostobel de las Casas. De driver was nice (Jesus) The sites are worth visiting and Chiapaa is beautifull.

Two Excellent Sites. One Long Day.

Agua Azul and Palenque are both excellent sites for different reasons. Waterfalls vs Mayan Temples. Each was worth the trip. To combine both in a day is efficient but exhausting. Pickup time is 4 am. Dropoff time is 11 pm. Most of the time is spent in the van, navigating narrow mountain roads and topes. En route there are stops for food and bathroom breaks. At the break locations and the main attractions, locals will try to sell you food and tourist keepsakes. Consider splitting the trip in two if you have the time.
